I don’t
know who she is, or even what she is.
But I feel compelled to protect her. There’s something so innocent, so
helpless, so pure about her—and I
feel driven from within to do whatever I can for her. The first time the
creatures of darkness came for her, it seemed as natural as instinct to pick up
my staff and defend her with it. And when she spoke I felt like she was
communicating directly with my soul, even though I couldn’t understand a word
of what she said. The fragility of her slender white fingers almost breaks me
every time she touches me, or I grab her hand to guide her.
